Project Description: Demonstrate an in-stream tidal turbine in the Minas Passage of the Bay of Fundy

  • Partnership with Marine Current Turbines: Maritime Tidal Energy partnered with Marine Current Turbines Ltd. (MCT) to respond to a Department of Energy Request for Proposals (RFP) for proponents who were capable of demonstrating credible tidal turbine technology in the Bay of Fundy
  • Matching technology to regulatory requirements: Matched MCT’s 1.2 MW tidal turbine technology with the Nova Scotia Department of Energy’s demonstration requirements
  • Financial case: Built a financial case for this project.
  • Site Characterization Study: Project required studying the Bay of Fundy’s world class tidal characteristics to ensure our response was technically and environmentally sound
  • Government offer of Turbine Berth: MCT was ultimately offered a turbine berth at the FORCE site in the Bay of Fundy.

Role of Maritime Tidal Energy: MTEC ( Ron Scott – lead, Dan O’Halloran – tidal technology consultant, Dave DeWolfe – tidal science consultant,  Bruce McCulloch – financial consultant,  Kay Crinean, general consultant)  MCT, O’Halloran Campbell Consulting Ltd, and Dalhousie University’s Engineering Department partnered in the research and development required for Maritime Tidal Energy’s response to the Dept of Energy’s RFP.
